At least I think its Myrtle-of-the-River. The leaf undersurfaces seem to be smooth and it looks like there's some ridging of the midvein (this is more evident on the 10 megapixel original image file than this 1/3 megapixel web version). However, I could be mistaken, in which case it might be its cousin Spicewood (aka Pale Lidflower, Calyptranthes pallens). In any event, the confused mass of leaves results from the unusual branching pattern of the two Calyptranthes species. This eliminates a third similar species, White Stopper.
