[Dusk at Guapi Assu]

Guapi Assu, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, July 20, 2010

I like the layers in the fading light.

With film, it would have been impossible to take this shot. Either the sky would be white or the mountains black. The best one could have done would be to put a strongly graduated filter on the camera to tame the sky, and hope that no-one noticed that the upper part of the mountains were too dark. A modern DSLR like the Canon 7D is a different matter entirely. The sensor has a much wider dynamic range than any color film (and wider than your monitor or printer), and a little adjustment to the tone curve in Adobe Camera Raw makes it all visible on your monitor.
